Deer Steward 1 is an online course that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the key principles of deer and habitat biology, ecology, and management.
Deer Steward 1 consists of six sessions with 20 individual presentations totaling 16 hours. Students have the ability to save and continue where they left off, allowing you to complete the course at your own pace. Once registered, you will have up to 365 days to complete the course.
Yes, you can purchase any of the six sessions if you do not wish to take the course in its entirety. Should you continue to purchase the sessions individually, you can work your way towards a full Deer Steward 1 certification upon completion of all six sessions.
No, the individual modules are taken directly from the full Deer Steward 1 agenda. If you purchase the full course, you do not need to purchase the modules as well.
The courses are designed for anyone at any level who wishes to learn more about deer behavior, biology, habitat management, and how deer management benefits other species. Students come from diverse backgrounds and range from brand-new hunters to seasoned natural resource professionals.
While there is no comprehensive exam, you must pass a brief five-question quiz at the end of each presentation to advance to the next topic.
Yes, Deer Steward 1 qualifies for CFE’s from the Society of American Foresters and or The Wildlife Society.
Deer Steward 2 is in-person and is the next step in the Deer Steward program. Level 2 teaches students how to apply the principles learned in Level 1 through hands-on and field experience over the course of an extended weekend. Level 3 is the most prestigious, must be earned through an individual’s long-term service to NDA, and/or wild deer.
